Music
This course content will include an introduction to musical terms, the theory o musical composition, music history, musical instruments, elements of music, and current musical trends and technology. Several units encompass a broad spectrum of topics including musical styles, the music of our cultures, music from the audience's perspective and a hands-on keyboard experience. Required as a humanities course for graduation, music meets every day for one semester.
Chorus
Chorus class is offered as an elective to students. Students meet every day and sing as an ensemble. Students are taught common musical terms an symbols, note names and values, proper vocal production and the parts of the body used in singing. Each student must have their voice tested individually to determine proper voice part. Attendance at concert performances and graduation are requirements. Chorus is open to seniors as an elective.
Art 9
Art 9 is a multifaceted program designed for students who have not had any art course in high school. It is an introduction to art and art history which includes creating art using fundamental techniques and a general knowledge of art history. The student will enhance their understanding of the emotional and social impact on the arts in different societies. The student will lear to critique their own work, that of the fellow students, and that of master artists from various time periods. Student will participate in live events such as art show, display case arranging , and discussions pertaining to art. Art 9 meets daily for one semester and is mandatory for graduation.
Art II
Art II is for the student who is seriously interested in art, art history, artistic expression, cultural context, critical context, critical and aesthetic judgment and production, performance/live event/exhibition of art. This course includes the use of various media including clay, oil and/or acrylic paint, and sculpture materials such as wire and plaster. The student will develop a deeper knowledge through teacher led instruction as well as supervised studio work. the student will be encouraged to work in the media they feel most proficient using and to develop this talent to the maximum allowed within the course context. Art 1 is a pre-requisite for this course and the grade earned in Art 1 must be a 90 or higher and must reflect a knowledge and interest to merit entrance into Art II. Students requesting entrance to this course may be required to submit 3 original art works/sketches. Art II is an elective course open to seniors and meets for two semesters for one credit.
